My dishwasher uses 4 gallons of water per load. I can fit at least 12 cups, 12 plates, 4-6 bowls, and some silverware in it.
Handwashing = the sink uses a low GPM sink fosset, and still uses 1.5 gallons per minute (most sinks = 2.5 gallons per minute). So, if you spend even 10 minutes hand washing dishes, you’ve gone through 15 gallons of water. Sure, you can soak dishes in a full sink, but they’ve still got to be rinsed and scrubbed.
Winner? = Dishwasher.
